Have you been “Googa-bit?” It’s spreading! (Read on for details and coming cities..)

Is Google setting a new standard in broadband with their new gigabit service?

The near future could see basic broadband starting at the speed of 1 giga-bit. This could be the final nail in the coffin of Legacy carrier internet services.

Why is Google taking out any possible profit in internet access? Why would they literally give it away?

Well there is more profit in selling you their proprietary and compatible devices and services that will run over or leverage this “enhanced” medium of transportation. Google stands to make more money to sell you their TV set tops, TV services, tablets, cell phones and whatever other ingenious things that are on their way.

Lots of bloggers chiming in on the Google Fiber blog. Some say< what are you going to do with 1 Gig of bandwidth?” Others are praising this initiative and banter back that just like advances of computing speeds we will find ways to use it.

So where are the existing Google Fiber-lit cities and which are on the horizon for this service?

Provo Utah and Kansas City are the two trial markets.

Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh-durham, San Antonio, SLC, San Jose are on the way.
